PR Newswire | March 09, 2004

OnStar is increasing availability of its safety, security and peace of mind services in the recreational vehicle (RV) market by entering into new agreements with nine major RV manufacturers representing approximately 60 percent of RV production in North America.

Country Coach, Travel Supreme, Marathon, National, Tiffin, Forest River, Blue Bird, Featherlite and Georgie Boy are the latest RV manufacturers to offer OnStar’s Special Edition services as a factory option on their Class A motor homes. These RV manufacturers are actively installing OnStar hardware on vehicles currently in production. In only 15 months, over 1,300 RVs have been equipped with OnStar hardware. And over 90 percent of RV OnStar subscribers are renewing their OnStar service.

“OnStar features are a perfect match for today’s RV owners, who are constantly on the road,” says OnStar President Chet Huber. “OnStar provides RV owners safety and security with emergency services and travel assistance including door-to-door and point-of-interest locations. OnStar’s powerful three-watt Personal Calling phone with an outside antenna, superior reception and hands-free operation are also important to RV owners traveling to remote sites.”

OnStar is available on the following 13 RV manufacturers:
Country Coach
Travel Supreme
Marathon
Monaco
Newmar
Coachmen
National
Tiffin
Forest River
Blue Bird
Georgie Boy
Featherlite
Newell

OnStar provides hardware systems to RV manufacturers through a distribution agreement with RiverPark Incorporated of Elkhart, Indiana. OnStar’s RV Special Edition services are provided at the touch of OnStar’s three-button system:

– The red emergency button connects on a priority basis with a live OnStar advisor and provides the vehicle’s GPS location. The advisor can contact a nearby emergency service provider to request emergency/safety/rescue personnel to the vehicle location or direct the driver to a nearby hospital or other emergency service point.

– The blue OnStar button connects with a live advisor who utilizes GPS data sent from the vehicle to help RV drivers find gas stations, request roadside services, find campgrounds, or gather information on millions of travel points of interest in the OnStar database.

– The white OnStar button allows RV owners to make phone calls throughout the U.S. and Canada using OnStar Personal Calling (OPC), an integrated hands- free, voice-activated cellular phone. Not unlike OnStar-equipped cars and trucks, RV owners can make or receive calls to and from friends and family while in far away places. Using OPC, the caller can also access OnStar Virtual Advisor, which provides the caller with local weather, sports, stocks, and location-based traffic reports. OPC and Virtual Advisor are available in most markets and require an OnStar OPC-enabled vehicle, existing OnStar service contract and prepaid calling minutes.

About OnStar

OnStar, available on a range of vehicles from seven auto manufacturers and 13 RV manufacturers, is the nation’s leading provider of in-vehicle safety, security and information services using the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network and wireless technology. OnStar RV Special Edition services include stolen vehicle assistance, emergency services, roadside assistance with location, route support, and convenience services. OnStar Personal Calling allows drivers to make and receive hands-free, voice-activated phone calls through a nationwide cellular network and access traffic and weather reports, as well as sports scores, stock quotes and news through Virtual Advisor. More information about OnStar can be found at http://www.onstar.com/ . OnStar is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Motors.

Georgie Boy is in the middle of a successful year, and gained additional momentum after unveiling its new Cruise Air(R) XL and Cruise Master(R) models to glowing dealer reviews.

PR Newswire| September 03, 2004

Georgie Boy is in the middle of a successful year, and gained additional momentum after unveiling its new Cruise Air(R) XL and Cruise Master(R) models to glowing dealer reviews.

The motorhome manufacturer, a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries, Inc. , introduced the redesigned rear diesel Cruise Air XL and gas- powered Cruise Master, along with the rest of its 2005 product lineup, at their recent Dealer Seminar held in Charleston, S.C. The 2005 models all received high marks from those in attendance.

“The dealers were ecstatic about the changes, designs and refinements we made to the 2005 models. Our retail sales are currently up 38 percent over last year, well above the industry average. From our dealers’ enthusiastic reaction to our lineup, we’re all looking forward to this 2005 model year with a great deal of optimism,” said Pat Terveer, President of Georgie Boy.

For 2005, the Cruise Air XL and the Cruise Master both went through extensive upgrades and redesigns. Many of the changes were based on dealer recommendations, and will make these models even more competitive in the marketplace, according to Terveer.

“We want people to expect the best from Georgie Boy. They’ll certainly get that from all Georgie Boy models, and especially from the all-new Cruise Air XL and Cruise Master,” said Terveer. “Both models are completely redesigned, and both will be very strong competitors at their respective price points.”

Terveer said one of the key changes for the Cruise Air XL is that it now comes on a Freightliner raised rail chassis, replacing the straight rail chassis used last year. This allows for increased exterior storage, including pass-through storage compartments and a slideout tray. Molded aluminum storage doors with double struts provide both good looks and easy access to the storage compartments.

The raised rail chassis also includes a powerful 350 h.p. Caterpillar engine, replacing last year’s 330 h.p. Caterpillar.

The XL’s totally redesigned exterior includes a new front cap, with windshield wipers now mounted at the top, a sleek new headlight design for greater illumination, and aluminum wheels. Providing pizzazz to the exterior are three new full-body paint choices.

Inside the XL, one exciting change will be readily apparent, especially to the adults on board: the seven-foot ceiling height. This opens up the interior throughout the coach, and also allows for more storage space in the overhead cabinets. Three elegant hardwood cabinet options, including Georgia Cherry, give those cabinets enormous visual appeal.

For 2005, the XL features three brand new floor plans (a 38-footer and two 39-footers), each with triple slideouts. Tile and carpeted floors, recliners with footrests, flat screen TVs, bedrooms with a spacious wardrobe closet and a dresser, Flexsteel pilot and co-pilot seats with three-point seat belts, residential-style decor and so much more fill the interior with many delights. Optional items include Euro recliners with ottomans, and a choice of round or rectangular freestanding dinettes. In addition, the 39-foot Cruise Air XL features an optional breakfast nook with an overhead cabinet, located behind the front passenger seat.

According to Terveer, the 2005 Cruise Master is “radically new. It’s been redesigned from the ground up and looks very rear diesel-like, especially with its enormous storage capacity.”

He’s referring to the Cruise Master’s 200 cu. ft. of exterior storage space, an almost unheard-of amount in a gas model that comes from using a Cargo Master(TM) storage platform built on a Workhorse W24 chassis. Along with its molded aluminum cargo doors, the Cruise Master’s design and mammoth storage capacity does resemble a diesel model – but at a considerably lower price.

Enhancing the diesel resemblance are the many diesel-like features of the powerful Workhorse chassis, such as a Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating of 30,000 pounds. This is the highest capacity available for a gas chassis, and allows for additional slideout rooms and towing capability. It also includes an electronic push-button shifter for easy gear selection, four-piston Quadraulic disc brakes for excellent stopping power, and a 50-degree wheel cut for increased maneuverability in campgrounds and gas stations.

The Cruise Master also has a new front cap with an oversized windshield and larger side windows, including the power window on the new driver’s door, that provide increased visibility. A new rear cap includes a rear gas fill, and the standard full-body paint package comes with three choices, complete with Diamond Shield paint protection.

On the inside, the delightful surprises of the redesigned Cruise Master continue, starting with the new seven-foot ceiling with vinyl padding, which provides a welcome feeling of roominess. And, the oversized overhead cabinets provide a generous amount of storage. The driver-friendly dash is a prime example of Georgie Boy’s design efficiency, and the passenger side features a slideout computer tray. Plus, the driver and passenger seats include three- point seat belts.

Cruise Master owners have three hardwood interior selections to choose from, including a new Georgia Cherry option, three fabric selections and three floor plans as well – a 36-foot double slide model, and a 36- and 37-foot model with three slideouts.

The 37-footer features the innovative “bath-and-a-half” design Georgie Boy introduced last year, which includes a shower, wardrobe and sink in the rear bathroom, and a sink and toilet near the middle of the coach. “This design is the only one in the industry that creates more bath space. It provides extra privacy and dressing space while at the same time allowing other family members and guests to use another bathroom,” Terveer said.

Georgie Boy Manufacturing, LLC, Edwardsburg, Michigan, has manufactured quality recreational vehicles for 36 years and is a subsidiary of Elkhart, Indiana-based Coachmen Industries.

Coachmen Industries, Inc., now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is one of America’s leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles with well-known brand names including COACHMEN(R), GEORGIE BOY(TM), SPORTSCOACH(R) and VIKING(R). The Company’s subsidiary, ALL AMERICAN HOMES(R), is the nation’s largest producer of systems-built modular homes. Coachmen Industries is also a major builder of commercial structures with its ALL AMERICAN BUILDING SYSTEMS(TM) and MILLER BUILDING SYSTEMS(TM) products. Prodesign, LLC is a subsidiary that produces custom composite and thermoformed plastic parts for numerous industries under the PRODESIGN(R) brand. Coachmen Industries, Inc. is a publicly held company with stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker COA.

Coachmen RV Company, maker of Georgie Boy motorhomes, undergoes Major Expansion at Indiana and Georgia Facilities in Middlebury, Ind.

PR Newswire | March 13, 2003

Coachmen Recreational Vehicle Company, LLC, a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries , announced plans today to build a new class C motorhome plant at its Middlebury, Ind. complex. The Company also said it has agreed to acquire an additional facility in Fitzgerald, Ga. it will use to expand towable production at its Georgia Division. The increased manufacturing capacity will help Coachmen meet demand for its popular travel trailer, fifth wheel and class C motorhome product lines.

Coachmen already broke ground in Middlebury on a state-of-the-art 127,000- sq. ft. motorhome plant, which is expected to be in operation by early August. Coachmen expects to add as many as 150 new employees to this new facility over the next couple of years.

The 100,000-sq. ft. building in Fitzgerald, Ga. will produce travel trailers and fifth wheels, and should be operational by June. About 50 new employees will be added to Coachmen RV’s Georgia Team when the plant starts production. As the new plant ramps up production, more employees may be added.

“While many industries have been slashing jobs and operating their factories well below capacity, demand for Coachmen’s RVs has been increasing,” said Michael R. Terlep, President of Coachmen RV Company. “During 2002, Coachmen RV’s wholesale shipments outpaced the industry in combined class A and class C motorhomes by 65 percent. The same is true for our combined travel trailer and fifth wheel shipments, as we outpaced the industry by 37.9 percent.”

“We are thrilled with Coachmen’s decision to grow in Middlebury,” said Indiana Lt. Governor Joe Kernan, who leads the state’s economic development efforts as director of the Indiana Department of Commerce. “The company has been a crucial part of our state’s economy for many years and this expansion further demonstrates its ongoing commitment to Indiana. We are proud of the team effort put forth by the Department of Commerce, Middlebury and Coachmen that helped to make this project a reality.”

“As a result of our successful product management strategies and more importantly, the efforts of the dedicated Team Members of Coachmen RV, we are very much in a growth mode and gaining momentum in the marketplace,” added Terlep. “So much so that during the last 18 months, we have struggled in fulfilling the orders for our popular class C motorhomes in a timely manner. At the same time, strong demand for our recently introduced Chaparral(TM) fifth wheel, Somerset Dream Catcher(TM) fifth wheel and Captiva(TM) travel trailer has created lead times for our dealers and retail customers that are much longer than desirable. The additional production capacity these two plants will provide will enable us to continue building up our market share, while better serving the needs of our customers.”

The new motorhome plant will be Coachmen’s largest RV plant, and also the Company’s first to feature two assembly lines. Utilizing two assembly lines will increase production efficiencies by segregating higher production-hour models from lower production-hour models. The new plant also features over 24,000-sq. ft. of mezzanines for offline manufacturing processes, such as assembling cabinets, kitchen units and other modules, providing improved material flow and manufacturing processes. Cranes will lower finished sections for installation in the motorhomes.

The Company will produce its six class C Coachmen(R) and Shasta(R) product lines in the plant, and will introduce a seventh class C product line this summer for the 2004 model year.

“We’re certainly looking forward to the completion of this new facility,” said Gary O’Dell, President of the Middlebury Town Council. “It’s very modernistic in design and we’re excited to see its outcome. It will make the gateway to the city look better, and we’re very pleased it will add new jobs to Middlebury.”

The new Georgia manufacturing facility, located in the former Irwin Manufacturing plant, was built in 1996 and is approximately one mile from Coachmen’s existing plant. The Georgia Division of Coachmen RV will produce all nine lines of Coachmen(R) and Shasta(R) brand travel trailers and fifth wheels. The current 46,000-sq. ft. plant, owned and operated since 1971 by Coachmen RV, has capacity to produce only four of these product lines.

“Coachmen RV is the number one selling brand throughout the seven southeastern states serviced by our Georgia Division. It’s only logical to add production capacity to manufacture our entire towable line at our Georgia Division. This new plant will enable us to continue our market share growth in the Southeast. The additional capacity at our Georgia Division will also free up much needed capacity at our Indiana manufacturing complex,” Terlep said.

“Coachmen RV was recently ranked the number one selling model of travel trailer in America, according to 2002 year-end reports issued by Statistical Surveys, Inc., and has historically ranked as the leading selling model class C motorhome in the nation. The time is right for adding more production capacity. These expansion plans will nurture continued growth for Coachmen, as we fully intend to build upon our momentum,” concluded Terlep.

Coachmen Recreational Vehicle Company, LLC markets travel trailers, fifth wheel trailers, class A and class C motorhomes. A subsidiary of Elkhart, Indiana-based Coachmen Industries, Inc., Coachmen RV Company was founded in 1964 in Middlebury, Ind., where its headquarters and largest manufacturing facility are located. Manufacturing sites are also located in Goshen, Ind., and Fitzgerald, Ga. WALT DISNEY WORLD(R) Resort has designated Coachmen as the official recreational vehicle of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground and Disney’s Wide World of Sports(TM) complex in Florida.

Coachmen Industries, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles with well-known brand names including COACHMEN(R), GEORGIE BOY(TM), SHASTA(R) and VIKING(R). Coachmen Industries is also the largest modular home producer in the nation with its ALL AMERICAN HOMES(R) and MOD-U-KRAF(R) subsidiaries. Modular commercial and telecommunication structures are manufactured by the Company’s Miller Building Systems subsidiary. Prodesign, LLC is a subsidiary that custom thermoforms composite and plastic parts for numerous industries under the PRODESIGN(R) brand. Coachmen Industries, Inc. is a publicly held company with stock listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the COA ticker symbol.

Georgie Boy Manufacturing, Inc., announced that it will expand production of diesel-powered motorhomes by opening a plant in Elkhart, Indiana.

PR Newswire | April 07, 2000

Georgie Boy Manufacturing, Inc., a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries, Inc. (NYSE: COA), announced today that it will expand production of diesel-powered motorhomes by opening a plant in Elkhart, Indiana. Georgie Boy’s Elkhart operations will be named Georgie Boy Manufacturing Diesel, Inc. (GBMD). The facility will be located at 1520 Mishawaka Street in the 65,000-sq. ft. facility formerly used by the COA Automotive division of Coachmen Industries. In early spring the first units should be rolling off the Elkhart assembly line.

“This new plant will allow us a much-needed increase in diesel pusher production capacity,” noted Fred Emmert, President of Georgie Boy Manufacturing. “It will enable us to better penetrate the increasingly important diesel motorhome market.”

Throughout the last decade, the RV Industry has enjoyed good growth. In particular, the diesel market has been on a steady uphill climb, and today rear diesel pushers are the fastest growing segment of the class A motorhome market. The GBMD Elkhart motorhome facility will produce diesel-powered units exclusively.

“We will initially be producing Georgie Boy’s popular Cruise Master and Landau models in the Elkhart facility,” Emmert said. “Once we start to increase our volume, we anticipate the introduction of new floor plans and some exciting new models.”

Georgie Boy has been unable to focus efforts on the diesel market because its production facilities in Edwardsburg are literally running at capacity with demand for its gas-powered motorhomes. “We were ‘facility-constrained’ and now we will be able to resume our growth track,” Emmert said.

“Coachmen’s strategic plan is to focus our assets on our core businesses and growth opportunities,” commented Claire C. Skinner, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Coachmen Industries. “With the rear diesel portion of the motorhome market representing such an important segment, the timing is right for Georgie Boy to add more production capacity.

Throughout the months of February, March and April GBMD will be setting up the Elkhart facility for production. Roughly 30 employees from the Edwardsburg plant will staff the Elkhart production facilities. Up to 70 additional new employees will eventually be hired.

Georgie Boy First-Ever Dealer Seminar "Exceeded All Expectations Of Success"; Seminar Produces $25 Million in Sales, Creating Largest Backlog in Four Years.

PR Newswire | August 18, 2003

“Standing Tall in the Desert” was the theme of Georgie Boy’s first-ever Dealer Seminar, held recently at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Ariz. Based on the Seminar’s tremendous success, Georgie Boy, a major motorhome manufacturer and a subsidiary of Coachmen Industries, Inc. , will be standing tall everywhere it goes during the 2004 model year.

Now celebrating its 35th Anniversary, Georgie Boy’s sales from the Seminar totaled $25 million, with orders still coming in from dealers. According to Pat Terveer, President of Georgie Boy, the company now has its biggest backlog since 1999.

“This Seminar just blew us away, and exceeded all our expectations for success,” enthused Terveer. “We went into it feeling pretty good that the product would be very well accepted, but everyone thought the new models were even better than we thought. It was a fantastic meeting.”

Georgie Boy produces gas-engine Class A motorhomes under the Cruise Master(TM), Landau(TM), Pursuit(TM) and Velocity(TM) brand names, and the Cruise Air(TM) XL and Bellagio(TM) rear diesel models.

Adding to the excitement generated by the Seminar, Terveer announced that Georgie Boy’s retail sales during the first five months of the year were up 14 percent compared to the same time period from last year. He also said shipments to dealers were up 6.2 percent from January through May, easily putting them above the industry average of 2.3 percent.

“This was absolutely a great Seminar,” said Steve Dunkin, President of Holiday Motorhomes, a Georgie Boy dealer in Everett, Wash. “It was a great opportunity to meet one-on-one with Georgie Boy management and have some input, listen to other dealers, and become more knowledgeable about the company and the products.”

Georgie Boy dealers viewed the 2004 product lineup and attended presentations detailing product changes and enhancements, marketing plans for the coming year and operational changes within the company designed to improve quality and production efficiency. Awards were given to Georgie Boy’s Top 10 dealers, and the company also honored its longest serving dealer, McGaugh RV of Springdale, Ark. McGaugh began selling Georgie Boys in 1972.

Product highlights included a second triple slideout Cruise Master, the 3755TS, which features a “bath-and-a-half.” This new floor plan includes a shower, wardrobe and sink in the rear bedroom, and a toilet and sink near the middle of the unit, creating more bathroom space.

“This motorhome will appeal to many customers,” said Terveer. “With entry-level prices for diesel units moving higher over the past few years, this new Cruise Master neatly fills the gap between highline gas models and entry-level diesels.”

“That ‘bath-and-a-half’ floor plan is the only one in the industry to provide extra privacy and dressing space in the bedroom with another bathroom for family and guests to use. It’s a feature that women especially will appreciate,” noted Dunkin.

Other refinements for 2004 models include providing a choice of colors for the Ultra-leather sofas, natural cherry hardwoods, and a dark metallic base coat for units with full body paint.

Also on full body paint models, the unique Diamond Shield front-cap protection film is now standard. Diamond Shield eliminates paint chips and damage caused by stones, bugs, road salt, abrasions and weathering; it has a high gloss finish which is non-yellowing; and it’s easy to clean and maintain.

“Overall, our motorhomes have a lot more eye appeal than last year, because we’ve upgraded the exteriors and added new wood choices and more luxurious fabrics to the interiors,” stated Terveer.

Ryan Hollan, Director of Sales and Marketing for Harberson Swanston in Holiday, Fla., agreed with Terveer’s assessment. “They have some very innovative floor plans, and they’ve made all the right improvements: bigger TVs, new paint colors and the color base paint, a Workhorse chassis with 22″ tires. Georgie Boy covers all customer bases, from the first-timer to someone looking for a high-end model. They have an overall appeal, great features and they look very good.”

Dunkin also liked what he saw of the new models. “The base coat color with the full body paint really sets off the product. I liked all the interior upgrades, making them much lighter and brighter, and also cleaner looking. It’s also good to see more models within each product line, too. Pat and the Georgie Boy management team really listen to the dealers. They respond quickly, resulting in changes that appeal to more and more customers.”

Terveer is also confident dealers will soon notice even greater quality with Georgie Boy units, especially because of a major operational change in production. George Tierce, the Vice President of Operations hired earlier this year, installed a new production system based on Kaizen methods, a process of continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and quality.

Tierce realigned the plant layout, and created operational cells throughout the plant. These permit everything that should be installed on a unit in each cell to be done in one place, so workers will not be moving up and down the production line. The cells also eliminate waste and increase efficiency, as does opening up the plant to make it easier for people to work.

The plant also features 11 “Quality Gates” with actual traffic lights at each gate. Before a unit can advance down the production line, it’s given a thorough quality control inspection to make sure all systems work as required, and all necessary components are properly installed. If the unit passes the quality check, the light turns green and the unit moves forward. If there’s any kind of problem, the red stoplight comes on, and whatever is wrong must be fixed before the unit can continue.

“This will really be a big help to us,” stated Terveer. “It will ensure we have a good product and good quality, while increasing our production and improving efficiency. We’ll provide products that not only look good and have the features and benefits customers are looking for, but they’ll be of significantly better quality.”

“They went over the top for what we expected,” said Hollan, referring to the many positive product changes. “Georgie Boy offers a luxury coach for a good price.”

Because of the success of this year’s Seminar, plans are already underway for next year’s Georgie Boy Dealer Seminar.
